The Burdekin region extends from the town of Ravenswood at the top of the Great Dividing Range in the west and east to the coast. It includes part of the Great Barrier Reef and the small coastal communities of Wunjunga in the south to Giru in the north. There is a thriving horticulture industry in the Burdekin, with abundant harvests of mango, rockmelon, honeydew, tomatoes, eggplant and capsicum as well as sorghum, corn and pasture grasses. The area is one of Australia's largest producers of sugarcane (more than 8 million tonnes each year) and also hosts a prospering aquaculture industry that supplies not only the local region, but international markets as well. The main campus is made up of an administration building, student residential accommodation, classrooms, workshops, staff housing, a 400-hectare sugar farm, a 125-hectare small crops section and over 2000 hectares of general grazing country.
