South Arm Primary School is on a peninsula on the eastern side of the entrance to the Derwent estuary. The school is 152 years old and is approximately 40 km from the city centre of Hobart. South Arm is a peaceful and scenic area in close proximity to a variety of beaches and waterways. Many people who live in the community travel to Hobart daily for employment. The school currently has 116 students enrolled at the school. At South Arm Primary we promote self confidence and lifelong learning through respecting difference and celebrating individuality. The Tasmanian Curriculum is based on a key set of values and purposes and explicitly defines curriculum content, teaching methods and assessment as essential and interdependent elements. The Tasmanian Curriculum framework promotes explicit teaching of skills and concepts to further develop student’s understanding and their ability to relate and apply these understandings to everyday life situations. All classes are committed to daily dedicated Literacy and Numeracy time. At these times the school has committed funds to provide an extra adult (teacher or teacher assistants) for two hours or more three days a week in each classroom.
