Gwandalan Public School is situated at the southern end of Lake Macquarie servicing the Summerland Point and Gwandalan communities. The school enrolment has fluctuated between 396 and 405 over the past few years. Students excel in a variety of sports and show outstanding skills in Drama, Singing and Dance. The school regularly attracts between 500 to 600 parents and community members to School Concerts.
Historically, the school has won many awards for its outstanding Environmental Education Programs. The school uses recycled water to maintain the oval, the six rainwater tanks collect water for dual flush toilets and most bubblers have been spring-loaded to reduce water wastage. Community members assist students in maintaining a hydroponic garden which grows tomatoes and lettuce for use in the Canteen. A group of 40 students work in a Land Care Program which maintains gardens and the school surrounds.
The school is supported by an enthusiastic and hard working Parents and Citizens and business community. Point Wolstoncroft Sport & Recreation Camp facilities are accessed regularly.
