Walgett is a rural centre located in the north west of the state. It has a population of 200 students P-12. About 95% of students identify as Aboriginal. Walgett has one Principal and the school is based on two sites. On the Warrena St site are the Junior (P-4) and Middle (5-8) divisions. The Arthur St site houses the Senior (9-12) division. The school is supported by the community and many agencies. The AECG and Dharriwaa Elders are active in their support for the school. The school is enhancing student outcomes through using technology, increased VET offerings and a focus on Quality Teaching. Engagement through participation in learning the Gamilaraay Language is popular with students. Sport is popular with students and the school performs at a high level at inter-school and district carnivals. Walgett teachers are generally in their first years of service and are enthusiastic, involve themselves with student programs and participate in community organisations.
