Nhulunbuy High School was opened in 1981. It is a comprehensive High School that caters for Years 8-12. Currently, the school enrolment is approximately 250. There are 106 students in the senior school. There is a generally a low staff turnover and the school obtains sound results in externally examined courses due to the expertise and maturity of its staff and the quality of resources available. Several of the staff members have taught at the school for long periods of time. Students come from all over Australia and the world and bring a wealth of experiences with them. Many others are first generation born in Nhulunbuy who provide a sense of stability and pride in the town.
