At Mt Gravatt Special school we believe that the education of students with special needs must be focused in a way that maximizes each individual’s potential to participate in supported work, living and leisure contexts in the future. We believe it is also important to provide holistic learning opportunities where the learning exists in meaningful contexts and where the immediate application of the learning is self evident. To this end we have further developed our Work Experience, Specialist lessons, and Community Skill based programs within the school.
Time is limited hence nothing is more valuable than specialist information which can inform the program development of students with special needs. For this reason where ever possible we harness the combined expertise of a team to ensure insightful program development. At Mt Gravatt Special we aim to include the expertise of Parents, Guidance Officers, Advisory Visiting Teachers, Teachers and External Consultants to ensure our resources are put to their optimal use in supporting the learning needs of our students in the most effective and efficient manner. Such input allows us to target the knowledge and skills which complement and provide foundation for future learning to ensure our students effectively use their time to optimally prepare for life.
Our staff is our most valuable asset in supporting the learning needs of our students. We value collegiality and build the capacity of our staff so that we can ensure our students enjoy best practice learning experiences and that our staff retain their zeal and enthusiasm for this most rewarding task of education.
