Railton Primary School is situated in a rural area of north western Tasmania. Our school values are ‘we care, we show respect, we are responsible and we do our best’. We have a strong focus on explicit teaching and intervention in literacy and numeracy. Student’s participate in Indonesian and specialist visual arts, physical education, swimming and music programs and are involved in environmental activities at nearby Sykes’ Sanctuary. All classrooms have interactive whiteboards and computers, including netbooks in our upper primary classes, to support student learning. Our school grounds include an oval, a covered netball court and a pool that is widely accessed by the Railton community. We continue to be a Move Well Eat Well school. Birth to school programs include Let’s Read, movement to music, pre-kinder and parent child sessions that promote early learning and transition to school. We provide access to on site after school care in our refurbished GP hall. We are committed to meaningful parent involvement and there are a range of both formal and informal options, including the School Association, Parents and Friends and classroom based participation programs.
