South Kalgoorlie is a Level 5 Primary School of approximately 600 students in the regional centre of Kalgoorlie. Established in 1904 (no original buildings are left) the school has a rich history, providing a positive and supportive environment for all students. With a strong Numeracy and Literacy focus it is a very inclusive school with a diverse range of students with approximately 25% Aboriginal, 25% Maori and 10% ESL.
Specialist classes include LOTE Indonesian, Music, Visual Arts, Science, Library and P. E. Students are involved in many community events that portray a positive image to the wider community. The active P&C and School Council are very supportive and strong bonds are fostered between the school and community.
The school is Waste Wise and Water Wise with excellent grounds. Ninit Mayee Eco Centre provides opportunities for students to be involved in environmental programs including worm farming and gardening.
With a mix of experience it is a predominantly a young and enthusiastic staff with a focus on collaboration. Collaborative planning and team teaching promote cooperation and support for both staff and students. Pastoral Care is a strength and elected Student Leaders are role models for other students.
South Kalgoorlie prides itself on the way staff and students work together to cater for the needs of all. It is a very supportive environment where staff gain valuable experience that enhances their professional development and ultimately benefits the student's educational outcomes.
