The Barossa Valley was identified as a high need area in the 1992/96 National Child Care Strategy. As such it was jointly funded by both the Commonwealth and State Governments. The Leila Bullock Kindergarten in Nuriootpa was selected as the site for 21 Child Care places to be added on to the existing kindergarten building. The Management Committee were re-incorporated to manage the child care, pre-school and other programs already running from the centre. The Nuriootpa Community Children’s Centre, as it was re-named in March 1995 became the first Integrated Children’s Service in South Australia. The management committees of 1994 and 1995 worked very hard to set up a good basis from which the Centre could be even more successful, including setting a combined budget; employing staff, purchasing equipment and developing policies such as are contained on this website. The Centre opened on Monday July 24 1995. The Child Care part of the Centre is now a 30 place Centre – catering for 10 under 2’s and 20 Over 2’s.
