The Cooperative Research Centre for Freshwater Ecology
exists to improve the condition of Australia's rivers, lakes and
wetlands through research, education and knowledge exchange.
Through collaborative research projects, the Centre addresses issues of current concern including native fish decline, the control of blue-green algae, the impact of alien species, environmental flows and river and wetland rehabilitation. The Centre's research covers six areas of
national importance: flowing waters, standing waters and eutrophication, floodplain and wetland ecology, water quality and ecological assessment, urban water management and fish ecology
