Ngukurr School is located in the community of Ngukurr, 320km southeast of Katherine. The community has a population of approximately 1500, however this fluctuates depending on the season and ceremonial activity. Whilst Kriol is the main language spoken, there are up to five other languages also spoken. The main traditional owners are members of the Ponto clan, with Manbilila clan members also having a role; there are seven other clans that reside in and around Ngukurr. All these clans are connected and are highly mobile for ceremonial and family reasons. The community can be accessed by 4WD during the dry season only. Ngukurr can be accessed via air through chartered air services only and has an all weather airstrip
Ngukurr School provides education to students from preschool through to secondary. The school offers a vocational educational training program for its middle and senior years students. Ngukurr School also implements the Accelerated Literacy program.
