Waverley Primary School is situated in the eastern suburbs of Launceston. The school is the heart of the community as Waverley is a small, isolated suburb. The school has a strong commitment to building self and social awareness and focuses on the mental health of the entire community. We offer established programs that develop capacity within the early years of schooling, including Baby Buddies, Parent Child, and Early Start. In 2008 we have also offered 15 hours of Kindergarten – a highly successful trial funded through the Commonwealth Government. In order to prepare our students for their day we offer a healthy breakfast on a daily basis for a minimal fee. As well as being an important social time, older students assist with serving, and the interactions between older and younger students help to build the school as a safe community. A large component of Waverley’s curriculum is developed around a set of whole school throughlines—Switch On and Learn, Get Along, Be Responsible, Be Proud/Show Pride, and Bounce Back. These principles connect and relate to all elements of our school life. To encourage physical wellbeing we offer participation in a youth basketball roster for our upper primary students.
