DEST supports the Australian Government’s efforts to respond in an integrated and balanced way to the education and training needs of all Australians. It established a national policy framework for school level education, post compulsory education and the training between education and work. It improves access to education for disadvantaged groups including Indigenous Australians and isolated students. The Australian Government takes a strong strategic approach to science by providing support for both basic research and the creation of world class centres of excellence.
