Gympie East State School opened on October 9 1965 after several smaller schools were closed in the area. The decision to bus students into a central location gave rise to the school as it is today. The history and ethos of these smaller schools is not lost in our small rural school today.
Situated a short drive from the centre of Gympie on the way to Tin Can Bay, Rainbow Beach and the world heritage Fraser Island, our school provides co-educational education from Prep to Year 7 for 142 students (Oct 2009). This rural setting with rolling hills, dairy cattle, small crops and flowing creeks is a great backdrop for this environmentally conscious school.
