Strahan Primary School is situated in the picturesque town of Strahan on the banks of Macquarie Harbour. The permanent population is about 800 although that number swells threefold in the tourist season. The community has high expectations of the students and staff of the school. The parents, community and businesses support the school through fundraising, donations and providing services to help the school. The school caters for Kinder to Grade 6 with weekly Pre-Kinder and Birth to Four programs. The students participate in various extra activities such as chess competitions, swimming awareness, basketball coaching, football coaching, activity days, performances and interschool sporting carnivals. The school prides itself on activities between classes such as the Buddy Reading Program where older students are paired with younger students for a shared weekly reading session. Our school upholds the tradition of ANZAC Day Sports. The students march in the ANZAC Day march and attend the 11 o’clock service. A BBQ lunch is held at the school and the Parent and Friends are involved in organising afternoon sporting activities; events such as sprints and gumboot throwing are included.
