Amoonguna School is located in the Amoonguna community, approximately 20km east of Alice Springs. The community was established as a government reserve in 1960 and many people were shifted there, including some Warlpiri and Luritja people, who had originally come to Alice Springs to work for the Australian Army during World War Two and then intermarried with local families. Most people living there now are Eastern Arrernte or married into Eastern Arrernte families.
Gillen Primary School, in Alice Springs, has responsibility for Amoonguna School. Amoonguna School offers education services to students in early years and primary years.
