Kalkaringi School, serving the twin communities of Kalkaringi and Daguragu, is located in the community of Kalkaringi 480km southwest of Katherine in the area of Wave Hill Station. Traditional owners belong to the Gurindji language group; there are also some residents from the Warlpiri language group. In 1966 the Gurindji people working on Wave Hill Station went on strike over wages, condition and land. The famous 'Gurindji Walk Off' followed and is attributed to the start of the land rights movement in Australia.
The population of Daguragu/Kalkaringi is approximately 750 people and can be accessed all year round via road; access may be difficult during the wet season due to flooding and condition of the road. The community can also be accessed via air through chartered air services only.
