Hervey Bay Special School is a state school for special students. It opened in 1986 with 19 children and has grown to have nearly 100 students. To enrol in our school a child must have an intellectual impairment, many of our students have additional impairments including visual, hearing, physical and Autism Disorders.
Our school is a great school with well-trained experienced staff who meet the diverse needs of the students very well. Hervey Bay Special School has won a number of state awards and a national award for excellence. It is a student focussed school that strives to develop independent citizens. Hervey Bay is a small coastal city about 3 ½ hour’s drive north of Brisbane.
The environment is clean and fresh with a mild sub-tropical climate. A local attraction is the ease of accessing Fraser Island. It is well serviced through high quality public education consisting of two high schools, six primary schools and our special school; as well as several independent schools.
