New Norfolk Primary School traces its beginnings to the mid-19th century. It was mentioned in an 1860 Board of Education report and a new school building was completed in 1867 at a cost of 849 pounds. The school now consists of the Blair Street Kindergarten and the Pioneer Avenue Primary School campuses. The oldest existing section of the school was erected in 1912. It has been added to in 1930, 1944, 1963 and 1994. In January 2009 a major refurbishment and addition of two classrooms commenced. New Norfolk Primary has undergone a decade of steady growth from an actual enrolment of around 250 students to more than 310 in 2009. Community growth and planning approvals indicate that this growth will continue into the foreseeable future. Despite its proximity to Glenorchy, New Norfolk has many of the characteristics of a country town. The school serves a diverse population which is characterized by all the advantages and disadvantages commonly associated with rurality.
