Built on a multi-level site overlooking the city, with the First Basin/Cataract Gorge as the school’s ‘backyard’, our “4 School Agreements”—Focus On Task, Attentive Listening, Mutual Respect, No Putdowns/Show Appreciation—underpin the way we live and work together at West Launceston Primary School. We are a “Tribes” school, place high priority on Social Learning, Health & Sustainability promotion and The Arts, and we proactively implement “Positive Behaviour Support” in partnership with families. The Teaching Team collaboratively implement inquiry-based and individualised curriculum and support programs in conjunction with a team of skilled aides and visiting school Social Worker, Psychologist and Speech Pathologist (one day per week each). The three Management Team members share an office for more effective communication and are curriculum leaders and case manage individual and group student support programs; the less equitable provision of senior leader roles in primary schools compared to other sectors and the increase in complexity and workload over the last decade requires creative responses.
