Carrum Downs Secondary College is a vibrant learning community where we are proud of our award winning educational programs. In our 10 year history, we have been recognised, acknowledged and praised for our outstanding curriculum. More specifically we have received state wide awards for innovation and excellence in our middle years program and our comprehensive and flexible senior years program focused on pathways to university, further education, training and employment.
Our middle years program (years 7-9) seeks to provide a stimulating and enjoyable learning experience for every student. The atmosphere of enjoyment of learning is central to our core programs and is underpinned by a carefully planned structure of Literacy, Numeracy, Science and Humanities. Blocks of thematic learning are introduced and core skills are developed through a range of relevant and real activities and experiences. Our senior years program (years 10-12) allows students to study Victorian Certificate of Education, Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning, Vocational Education and Training in Schools and School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships in a variety of combinations preparing students to achieve their aspirations. The curriculum is designed to allow students breadth and depth in their study, the opportunity to pursue interests and develop talents, flexibility and to design a course that follows their pathway plan. Our students follow a broad program in line with National Curriculum guidelines with the opportunity and expectation to excel. Information and Communication Technology resources are provided to students and widely utilised throughout the college to support and enrich the learning experience.
All students are encouraged to realise their academic potential. To specifically meet the needs of students operating at an academic level significantly above average we offer a Select Entry Program (SEP). Students who take part in SEP are taught by a team of specialist teachers and have the opportunity to work with other highly motivated students in an atmosphere that will challenge and extend their learning. Students also participate in individual and group music lessons as part of the program.
