About Home Hill State High School

Home Hill State High School is located in the Townsville-Burdekin District and services the community of Home Hill and outlying districts of Gumlu, Guthalungra, Osborne and Inkerman. The community consists of the established residential town of Home Hill as well as farming and rural related industries located in the district. Compared to all Queensland Secondary Schools, Home Hill High School is relatively small and is located in an isolated area. A significant portion of the community is either directly or indirectly associated with rural related industries, in particular, sugar. The community is closely associated with the township of Ayr just 12 kilometres north of Home Hill.

Currently 283 students attend the school in year eight to year 12. This total population comprises approximately 49% girls and 51% boys. Approximately 30% of the students at Home Hill State High School travel to and from school by bus. They are from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds with a reasonable number being from families of Mediterranean origin. There is a small number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in attendance. The school also supports a number of students with varying degrees of learning difficulties. In the senior school, the ratio of OP eligible to non OP eligible students varies.

The school has a proud academic record of achievement. Very high percentages of OP eligible students are consistently offered positions of their first choice at both the local and southern universities.
