Durong South is a Band 5 School of 46 students in the Darling Downs South West district. It is a small rural and remote school 96 kilometres from Kingaroy, the nearest large town. Durong South is lucky enough to have a rural setting being almost completely surrounded by cattle properties and some crop farming. Our students are proud of their heritage and their school.
A Teaching Principal is supported by 2 part time teachers, 3 teacher aides, Administration Assistant, a cleaner and a grounds person as needed as well as a LOTE itinerant teacher and an Arts itinerant teacher. Our part time teachers assume the Key Teacher and Learning Support role.
The population is stable with majority of families involved in the cattle industry. An audit indicates community members, who are active readers and writers with access to internet/email services, value broad literacy skills, which enable individuals to connect with others through their work, entertainment and creative pursuits. An expectation is held that children will complete 12 years of schooling and continue with tertiary education, if possible or desired.
