Kingaroy, originally a minute dot on the survey map known as the 56 mile peg, had its first school some miles from the present thriving township. The first school was built near Old Coach Road at Mt Jones in 1902. This area is now known as Hospital Hill. 20 students started their school life in January of 1902. This signalled the birth of Kingaroy State School. With the development of the town of Kingaroy, the Mt Jones school building was moved to Haly St. After the completion of the railway to Kingaroy and because of an increase in school population, it became imperative that a more central site be established. After much public debate and intervention by the Department of Public Instruction, Kingaroy State School was established on its present site in Alford Street in 1910.
