Riverside Education Support Centre (RESC) is nestled within Riverside Primary School, located in the Mandurah suburb of Greenfields. Both schools have been working together to provide a best possible learning environment for students of all abilities. There is an emphasis on providing an integrated learning community and this is reflected in the schools' infrastructure and resources.
Classrooms are situated wherever possible alongside mainstream classes of similar age. Our students learn and play in accordance with the rules and guidelines applicable to all students and are assisted to understand and comply with these rules by our caring team of teachers and education assistants.
Each class has a small number of students, allowing ample space for room layouts with easy access and additional furniture and equipment to support learning and ease of navigation by students with physical disabilities.
Rooms have sinks, food reheating facilities and fridges as well as larger work tables for food preparation, creative activities (painting, cutting, pasting, constructing), projects and games.
All classrooms have desktop computers. Cyber safety (sharing information about self) and occupational safety (posture, visibility, access) are important aspects of the information technology learning area.
The school is designed to facilitate movement between buildings. All permanent buildings are constructed to ground level, while non-permanent structures (demountables) are accessed via ramps that are built to OSH requirements.
Two concrete ramps also provide access to a full size oval (Fowler Park) for recreation, sport and inter-school events.
Directional Tactile Ground Surface Indicators (stippled tiles set into pathways) are positioned to assist visibility impaired students move efficiently between buildings.
Two-way hand-held radios facilitate communication throughout the school, enabling staff to respond quickly to any situations that may arise.
Toilets for students with disabilities are located throughout the school.
